Z: Nashville Zoo

After work Andrea and I met up at the zoo. I just bought a two-year membership, so I could get her in for free. I had never been to the zoo before, but we walked around for two hours and saw everything. It was really fun catching up with her and enjoying the sunshine.

My favorite animals were probably the meerkats. When you first walk in there are a couple of monkeys that are neat to watch. There is also a small petting zoo. I brushed a goat but Andrea wanted nothing to do with it. :)

The Nashville Zoo is located at 3777 Nolensville Road in Nashville. I live within a mile so it's nice that I can go there often and have a safe place to walk.

Nashville Zoo offers $1 off admission for military personnel and everyone in their party when they present their military ID.

A 2-year dual membership (meaning you and a guest get in for free) is only $100. There are also several other membership options, so if you live in or frequent Nashville, the membership instead of paying $14 per person is definitely the way to go.

A membership will also get you into more than 170 zoos and aquariums across the U.S. for free or at a discounted price. (So even if you don't visit Nashville often you can benefit from membership.)

It's hard to believe the zoo is right in the middle of south Nashville. You can't even hear the traffic. And most of the pathways are shaded—there's even an impressive bamboo forest … I had no idea bamboo would grow well in Tennessee!—so even in the heat of the day you can enjoy the animals without worrying too much about a sunburn. Kids will enjoy the playground and petting zoo, as well as the open bird exhibit and reptile rooms. Check it out!

It's a jungle out there,

  1. Did you go to the nursery? That's one of my fav places there. Last time I was there I got to see lion cubs. Too cute. Hard to believe those cute little cubs grow into ferocious cats!

  3. Alyssa, you have given me multiple places to visit should I ever get to nashville. I have a friend that just moved there in January from KC, and I relay to him all the fun places that you go and all the fun stuff you're finding there so he wont feel so out of place.
Thanks for all the hints and tips!
